1. ISP is blocking SMTP server ( can receive email ok, cannot send form desktop )

Problem: It is likely that your ISP is not allowing relay to outside smtp servers. More and more ISP's are implementing this feature to prevent spamming. It is possible that your ISP just implemented this and it is also possible they enable and disable the blocking periodically.

Solution: There is a very easy workaround to this. All you have to do is use your ISP's SMTP server. This does not affect how your email address appears on your outgoing emails.  Check to see if your ISP's SMTP server is listed below, if not you will need to call your ISP and ask what it is.

Popular local SMTP servers:

  • Comcast - smtp.comcast.net
  • America Online - smtp.aol.com
  • cwnet.com - mailhost.cwnet.com
  • Bellsouth - mail.bellsouth.net
  • Earthlink - mail.earthlink.net
  • Mindspring - smtp.mindspring.com
  • Netcom - smtp.netcom.com
  • PacBell - mail.pacbell.net
  • Rogers - smtp.braodband.rogers.com
  • Pipeline - smtp.pipeline.com
  • QuikNet - smtp.quiknet.com
  • Verizon - outgoing.verizon.net or smtpout.verizon.net
  • SBC / Yahoo / Ameritech - smtp.sbcglobal.net
  • Cox - smtp.east.cox.net ( east of Mississippi ) smtp.west.cox.net ( west of Mississippi )
  • Adelphia Cable ( outgoing ) - mail.adelphia.net
  • DirectNIC ( outgoing ) - smtp.directnic.com
  • Netscape Internet Service ( outgoing ) - smtp.isp.netscape.com
  • AT&T WorldNet ( outgoing ) - mailhost.worldnet.att.net

If your ISP is listed above and it still doesn't work after you have used the SMTP server listed please call your ISP to verify that is still the correct SMTP server. (Email webmaster@email55.com with if you know of an SMTP server that is not on our list so we can add it)
